The Finnish Transport Agency started operating on January 1st 2010.
The new agency combines the Rail Administration and parts of the Maritime Administration and Road Administration. The Road Regions are now parts of the new Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
Cooperation with the national and international value network seeks ways to provide to citizens and businesses with even better services that meet the needs of various client groups.
The vision of customer-oriented planning could be summed up as ”a passion for improving the Finnish people’s daily life and the competitiveness of industry and commerce”.
Finnish Road Administration’s procurement strategy has successfully paved the way to the future. The market has responded as expected and the level of costs in service procurement has fallen.
Maintenance measures (care, upkeep and replacement investments) ensure the trafficability of the current road network and maintain its current condition. State appropriations used for road maintenance total around EUR 400 million per year.
Traffic Management Centre collects real-time information on road and traffic conditions with the help of various roadside detectors and cameras. Valuable information on the traffic situation is also received from the Police, Rescue Centres, municipalities and other cooperating partners and road users.
Finnish Road Administration has been tasked with the goal of creating an eco-efficient transport system that reduces the adverse environmental impacts of traffic.
Even the best of road traffic systems cannot control the choices people make. Besides careful planning, quality road management and effective traffic education, road safety promotion also requires the contribution of each and every road user.
