The Finnish Transport Agency started operating on January 1st 2010.
The new agency combines the Rail Administration and parts of the Maritime Administration and Road Administration. The Road Regions are now parts of the new Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
Traffic Management Centre is responsible for Finnish Road Administration's traffic management services and co-operation with road management contractors.
Traffic Management Centre's services include e.g. traffic information dissemination and Road User's Phone Service (0200-2100). In addition Traffic Management Centre operate variable message signs on Finnish highways. Road users are warned of congested road sections, slippery road surfaces and the danger of elks on the road by using variable message signs. Speed limits can be adapted to suit road weather and traffic flow. Traffic Management Centre provides information on alternative routes and public transport possibilities.
